SARA ELKINS, PH.D.
Associate Professor, Health Service Psychology Doctoral Program

Lab Director
Dr. Elkins earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee and completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital.
Areas of current research include 1) trajectories of change in behavioral parent training interventions for ADHD; 2) parenting factors that can be maximized in interventions for disruptive behaviors; and 3) modular enhancements to traditional parent training interventions that increase accessibility and acceptability of interventions.
Clinically, Dr. Elkins has experience conducting cognitive and behavioral interventions with adults, teens, and children. Her specialty areas include behavioral parent training interventions for child disruptive behaviors and CBT treatment of child and adolescent anxiety and mood disorders.

PAIGE PATTERSON, M.S.

Paige is a fifth-year doctoral student in the Health Service Psychology program. She graduated from West Virginia University (WVU) with a B.S. in Psychology and the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) with her M.S. in General Psychology. Paige’s research interests broadly include the effects of adverse childhood experiences, risk and resilience, and harsh parenting practices. In her spare time, she enjoys binge-watching Netflix, keeping up with C-SPAN, and playing with her two fur babies.




KARINA TURNER, M.A.

Karina is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Health Service Psychology program. She is currently a predoctoral intern at the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from The University of Mississippi and her master's degree in Clinical Psychology at UHCL. Her research interests include childhood externalizing disorders, the development of violent and risky behaviors in youth, and increasing accessibility of evidence-based treatments. In her free time Karina enjoys cooking, camping, and spending quality time with friends.

CATHERINE DROTT, M.A.

Catherine is a third-year student in the Health Service Psychology PsyD program at UHCL. She received a BA in psychology at Baylor University and an MA in school psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include parental beliefs and values that influence the acceptability and efficacy of Behavioral Parent Training. She is also interested in the role of primary care and school systems in BPT referral pathways. In her free time, she enjoys (trying to) teach her dog, Murphy, new tricks, swimming, and spending time outdoors.

RAYNIE LEARD, M.S.
Doctoral Student

Raynie is a third-year student in the Health Service Psychology PsyD program at UHCL. She earned her BS in psychology from Sam Houston State University and her MS in family and human development from Arizona State University. Her research interests include strength and resiliency capabilities (e.g., benefit-finding and growth) among families of youth with developmental disabilities and chronic stress. To boost her own mental health and resilience, Raynie enjoys exercising, exploring nature, watercolor painting, hanging out with her six rescue pets, and trying to teach herself to play the ukulele.

YAN BARTHOLOMEW, B.S.

Yan is a second-year doctoral student in the Health Service Psychology (Clinical and School) program and a member of the Parent and Youth Behavior Research lab at the University of Houston, Clear Lake. She graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Human Developmental Science. Yan’s interests broadly include neurodevelopmental disorders and externalizing disorders and the impact of behavioral interventions and behavioral parent training. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, watching horror movies, and all things self-care.

SHIVANI BATHLA, M.A.

Shivani is a second-year student in the Health Service Psychology PsyD program. She graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and a double minor in Biology and Business Administration from the University of Houston and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from UHCL. Shivani’s research interests broadly include the impact of parenting styles, child development, and externalizing disorders. In her spare time, Shivani likes to bake, watch the TV series, Friends, and host game nights!

KHAIRUN NISA SATANI, M.P.H.

Nisa Satani is a second-year student in the M.A. Clinical Psychology program at University of Houston Clear Lake. She graduated with a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University. Nisa has a broad range of interest that include anxiety and other mood disorders in both children and adults, how different parenting styles, behavioral interventions and behavioral parental training can impact a child’s development. In her free time, Nisa enjoys cooking, traveling, music, and spending time with friends and family.

SRILEKHA MAHI VANGALA, B.A., PG.D.
Master's Student
Clinical Psychology
Mahi is a second-year Clinical Psychology master’s student at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in psychology, english literature, and mass communication & journalism from Osmania University and her Post Graduate Diploma in counseling psychology from St. Francis College for Women, in India. She worked as a counseling psychologist before moving to the US for her master's. Mahi has extensive interests in complex trauma, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and self-harm behaviors. In her free time, she likes to travel.
